16 ELECTRIC ENERGY MANAGERS RECEIVE ECoS RECOGNITION

KOTA KINABALU, 25 September - The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) today,
recognised 16 Registered ECoS Electric Energy Managers (EREEM) who have
successfully passed the examination conducted on 5 September 2024.
This recognition is crucial to ensure that EREEMs meet the qualification requirements
and are capable of fulfilling their responsibilities as set out under the Efficient Electric
Energy Management Regulations (EMEER) 2024.
Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser bin Abdul Wahid, Chief Executive Officer of ECoS, stated,
"Today, we celebrate not only the recognition of EREEMs but also reaffirm our
commitment to more efficient energy use. The expertise of these professionals is vital for
the development of more sustainable energy in the state of Sabah, ensuring that energy
management standards comply with industry standards."
He added that this initiative aligns with ECoS’ efforts to ensure that all electric energy
managers and Certified Energy Managers (CEM) serving or planning to serve in Sabah
must be registered with ECoS by 2 January 2025.
EREEMs function as qualified and registered individuals providing consultancy services
and continuous monitoring to commercial and industrial premises companies to comply
with the prevailing legal requirements in Sabah.
According to EMEER 2024, any company with installations receiving or generating
electric energy equal to or exceeding 3 million kWh for any period not exceeding six
consecutive months is required to appoint an EREEM to meet these legal requirements.
Non-compliance with legislation is an offence under Regulation 22 of the EMEER 2024,
which, upon conviction, may result in a fine not exceeding RM20,000.00 or imprisonment
for a term not exceeding one year, or both.
