📢 High Energy User Of Consumers In Sabah Urged To Take Up Energy Audit Conditional Grant (EACG)

KOTA KINABALU, 5 July - Electricity users from the industrial and commercial sector consuming more than 100,000 kWh of electricity per month and therefore subjected to the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations (EMEER 2024) under the Sabah Electricity Supply Enactment, are now eligible to apply up to RM100,000 from the Energy Audit Conditional Grant (EACG).

The announcement was made during the Seminar on EACG and Energy Management,
organised by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS). The seminar was attended by stakeholders from the Industrial and Commercial Sector, held at the Promenade Hotel yesterday.

Under this program, users or installations in Sabah’s industrial and commercial sectors that are subjected to the EMEER 2024 or related sectors consuming more than 100,000 kWh of electricity per month are eligible to apply for EACG in order for them to conduct energy audit activities at their installations which is aimed at helping to save energy and reduce the
burden of utility costs.

During the event, the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) conducted a briefing on the implementation of the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations 2024 (EMEER 2024). This is a significant step towards enhancing energy efficiency initiatives across the state.

The EMEER 2024 regulation, according to Ts. Mohammad Nizamuddin Bin Zainal Abidin, Assistant Director of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Unit during the briefing session, is part of a broader regulatory framework established by ECoS, which includes the application, the provision for Registered Electrical Energy Manager (REEM) competency, qualification
and roles, general penalty, and obligations of licensees and private installations to provide information to ECoS.

Under the new regulations, all existing electricity licensees, contractors, competent persons, and related equipment registrations will be regulated under ECoS which will ensure that licences and certificates remain valid and enforceable under the new enactments.

For further details and facilitation on compliance and registration, stakeholders are encouraged to utilise the ECoS Online System at www.ecos.gov.my. More information on EACG applications can be found on www.seda.gov.my/eagrant.
