ECoSxOPS KLIK:  Ts. Muhammad Azuan Zainuddin, Director of  Safety and Monitoring Department of ECoS (centre) along with officers from ECoS and SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. (Sabah branch) during the OPS KLIK 1.0 in one of the shops selling electrical goods in Tawau.

TAWAU, 22 November - A Joint Surveillance Operation on Electrical Equipment (Operasi
Pemantauan Bersepadu Kelengkapan Elektrik - OPS KLIK 1.0) led by the Energy
Commission of Sabah (ECoS) together with SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. (Sabah
branch) was conducted at nine shops in Tawau town earlier today..
The findings from OPS KLIK 1.0 revealed that there are still electrical goods being sold that
are not certified by ECoS-SIRIM or the Energy Commission (ST)-SIRIM.
The operation, led by Ts. Muhammad Azuan Zainuddin, Director of Safety and Monitoring
Department of ECoS said, "Since the regulatory power of electricity supply throughout the
state of Sabah was transferred from ST to ECoS on January 3, 2024, this operation aims to
ensure that electrical equipment sold complies with the Electricity Supply Enactment (EBE)
2024 and the Electricity Supply Regulations (PPBE) 2024. Other than that, this operation
was conducted to raise awareness among electrical equipment sellers about ECoS's role in
regulating the sale of consumer electrical equipment in Sabah."
"In accordance with Regulation 100(1), PPBE 2024, any consumer electrical equipment
must be tested and certified safe and approved by ECoS," explained Azuan, emphasising
the importance for electrical goods sellers to comply with Regulation 107 and Regulation
111(3) under PPBE 2024, which states that only consumer electrical equipment approved
and labelled with the ECoS-SIRIM Safety Label and the ECoS Energy Efficiency Rating
Label can be sold to consumers.
"However, ECoS still allows the sale of consumer electrical equipment with the Energy
Commission of Malaysia (ST)-SIRIM Safety Label and the ST Energy Efficiency Rating
Label in Sabah," he said.
"Failure to comply with these regulations may result in the equipment(s) being seized and
disposed of (or removed) in accordance with Regulation 110(2) and Regulation 113(2) under
PPBE 2024," Azuan continued.
Meanwhile, Ts. Ridwan Saham, Chief Operating Officer of ECoS, said, "OPS KLIK
operations will be actively conducted, and the next operation will involve more related
agencies. ECoS will continue its commitment and responsibility in enforcing relevant laws to
ensure that only safe and energy-efficient consumer electrical equipment is sold in Sabah."
