ECoS Registered Electrical Energy Manager (EREEM) is a competent registration requirement as adapted from Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations 2024 (EMEER 2024) which came into operation since 3rd January 2024, on the same day ECoS took over the regulatory authority for electricity supply and renewable energy in Sabah. EMEER 2024 Regulation 11(1) states that “No person shall engage in, be employed or hold himself out as a REEM for the purposes of the regulations unless the person has been registered by ECoS”.
Qualifications:
Eligible ECoS Registered Electrical Energy Manager applicant are:
- Malaysian citizen aged 23 years and above who
- Holds a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 [Act 138] and possesses at least six months working experience in the efficient management of electrical energy at an installation; or
- Holds a Degree in Science, Engineering, Architecture or its equivalent and possesses at least one year working experience in the efficient management of electrical energy at an installation; or
- Holds a Certificate of Competency issued by the Commission as an Electrical Services Engineer or a Competent Electrical Engineer and possesses at least nine months working experience in the efficient management of electrical energy at an installation; and
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of the Enactment and these Regulations that satisfies the Commission.
Without prejudice, ECoS may require any person to attend an interview to be conducted or caused to be conducted by the ECoS to ascertain his qualifications.
Roles:
In general, the EREEM shall have the following functions and duties:
- Audit and analyze the total electrical energy consumption.
- Advise the private installation licensee or consumer in developing and implementing measures to ensure efficient management of electrical energy at the installation
- Monitor effective implementation of the measures proposed.
- Supervise the keeping of records on efficient management and verify its accuracy
Ensure that the private installation licensee or consumer submits the information and reports within the specified time
